Meet Ruth

I’m always fixing things around the house and Julie is often surprised to come home and find me taking apart the garbage disposal or pulling out the kitchen cabinets. I can be fiercely determined when I set my mind to something (like getting the garbage disposal put back together), but I am also very calm and low key.

I’ve lived in three countries: I was born in Mumbai (Bombay), India and grew up there until I was 12; I spent my adolescence in Zurich, Switzerland and moved to the United States for college, eventually making San Francisco my home. Each shift made me realize how rich my past has been. I was lucky enough to come here with U.S. citizenship and have even lost my Swiss accent, but I know just how thrilling and challenging it can be to make a home in a new country.

Growing up in India, we would go swimming every day and my proudest moment was winning the girls' freestyle trophy when I was eight. Now, I love taking my nieces swimming and I know that teaching my child to swim will make me beam with pride.

I’ve done many things since moving to San Francisco. I was a union carpenter’s apprentice, the manager of two health food stores and an office assistant for a landscaping firm before heading to law school. Now, I work as an “in-house” attorney for tech companies.

Julie talks about Ruth

“What I love and admire about her most is that she listens acutely and treats everyone with the respect they deserve. Ruth is a gentle soul and I can’t think of anyone I would trust more to become a parent with.”
